Within 5 months of working in the hospitality industry, I learned a lot of DO'S and DONT'S in dealing with either the big bosses, co-workers and most of all the people, the "guests".
Aren't you get curious on how other people get a very nice room at the same rate you are paying (unless if they are enrolling in hotel membership)? Well, here are some tips in getting a nicer room at a very reasonable rate.
- Arrive early than the normal check-in time. Mostly likely, there will be more available room so the front desk agent can have more options where to place you.
- Approach the front desk agent in a warm and friendly manner. Wear your best smile if necessary. Remember you aren't the only person they encounter with requests and problems. Who knows she had a bad day with the guest before you. LOL.
- Ask something in a nice way showing respect. Front desk agents are only human; do not provoke them to get irritated with your presence.
- Dress properly. Remember, wherever you go people look at you on how you dress (sad but it is true). Don't be hypocrite, admit it...
- If the place you are going to is a business destination (people go to do business), go there on weekends because there would be more rooms vacant so your request to be upgraded to a bigger and nicer room has a big chances.
- On the other hand, if the place is a vacation destination, go there at OFF-PEAK SEASON. During this time, rates are lower, there are more rooms available and places aren't crowded. This is the reason why hubby and I went to Boracay, Philippines in September (habagat time and it was school time).
- Stay in a hotel which you have a membership. Members are given priority when it comes to their requests like they want smoking room, high floor and so on.
Just remember, Front desk agents are only human who are nice when treated nice. Of course, they aren't going to bark at you, it isn't a good customer service and perhaps they don't want to loose their job, but remember the have the authority and the access to giving your request... that is why BE NICE, ASK POLITELY...
